Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

In 2019-2020 the Alden CSD began reviewing the NYSED Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Educational Practices Framework.

Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework

Instructional staff began attending professional development and building a knowledge base to grow from.

A work group was formed in the 2020-2021 school year to review the literature in the context of the NYSED Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Educational Practices Framework and present its findings to the District Student Achievement Team. The findings included a recommendation for book studies and the establishment of a District-wide committee.

A District-wide book study of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond was conducted with teachers and administrators during the 2021-2022 school year, and additional opportunities for professional learning were shared and encouraged throughout the year.

During the 2022-2023 school year the Alden Central School District will implement the work group recommendation and establish a District-wide Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Educational Practices Committee.  The purpose of this committee is to make diversity, equity, and inclusion integral in our policies, practices, and program delivery. This committee is responsible for helping bring about needed changes
and will use the Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Educational Practices Roadmap to guide and inform our growth.
