Attention 2025 possible candidates. Letters were mailed home to students who have maintained a GPA of 92% or higher during 6th and 7th grade. Letters of intent are due by March 7, 2025, if you are interested in becoming a candidate.
7th GRADE INFORMATION
NJHS is a nationally recognized organization that recognizes students with exceptional character (being a good person), scholarship (commitment to learning), citizenship (living up to the ideals of democracy), leadership (positive influence on others), and service (work for the benefit of others without being paid). Because of your scholarship in sixth and seventh grades, you are now eligible to apply to be a member of Alden Middle School’s chapter of NJHS.
If you choose to apply, there are some activities you must complete prior to May 30th. Specific dates for each will be announced via Schoology and Remind to those choosing to apply. These include:
Completing the letter of intent
Complete an application and an essay
Obtaining 3 recommendations from teachers/staff who know you well
Completing a minimum of four hours of community service between March 1st and June 1st . These are volunteer hours and should be used to demonstrate the pillars of NJHS.
Students who are moved forward in the candidacy process will be notified by July 1st.
In 8th grade, you will participate in monthly meetings, community projects, and service to others. Those students who uphold all five pillars throughout their eighth-grade year, complete the required service hours, and participate in meetings and service projects (whole group AND individual), will be inducted at a special ceremony in May.
APPEAL PROCESS
If you wish to Appeal the selection process you must contact the principal of Alden Middle School: Mr. Steven Smith before the end of July.
